-A live American late night TV sketch comedy and variety show
-Developed by Lorne Michaels and Dick Ebersol
-Premiered on Oct. 11, 1975
-Sketches often parody contemporary American pop culture and politics.
-Each week, the show features a host who is going to do the opening monologue, and performs in sketches with the cast.

History
-The first people that Lorne Michaels hired for the show were Dan Aykroid, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, George Coe, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Michael O'Donoghue, Gilda Radner.
-As a result of the show, these people became instantly famous.
-Chevy Chase left during the 2nd season and was replaced by Bill Murray. Aykroid and Belushi left during season 4.
Lorne Michaels
-In 1984, new comics came on, such as Billy Crystal, Martin Short, Harry Shearer and Eddie Murphy.
-During the season of 1985-1986, Michaels hired virtual unknowns, like Robert Downey Jr, Joan Cusack. And the season was deemed disastrous. Michaels fired most of the original staff and brought in new people to help produce the show, such as Dana Carvey, Nora Dunn, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson, Jon Lovitz, Dennis Miller, Kevin Nealon. Dunn, Lovitz and Miller were the remaining 3 from 1985-1986
